SHELTERED HOUSING AND HEALTH CENTRE, FAIRFIELD, BUXTON Built around a courtyard, this sheltered housing project provided 42 mini-flats for the elderly arranged around access routes that are open to views and the communal facilities. There is a large entrance 'internal courtyard' with lounge, dining and office accommodation and connections to the health centre, formed from a Victorian school building. The exterior facades are robust and incorporate Buxton stone features whilst the courtyard provides a protected space for the residents. Internal circulation has many materials in common with the external spaces to create a 'street'. This RIBA competition winning project for the Borough of High Peak was carried out with Malcolm Lovibond and Associates. |
